Blowfly running on compressed air
Above is a photograph of a completed Blowfly Locomotive similar to one currently under construction. "Blowfly" (by Barry Potter) was serialised in "Australian Model Engineering" and is a very simple engine using slip eccentric valve gear. While the original "Blowfly" was 5" gauge this one is being constructed in 7¼" gauge. The superstructure or cab/tanks will also vary from that in the that shown in the photo.
Widening Blowfly to 7¼" creates a loco with improved appearance and stability. In the widened loco the cylinders are level with the outside of the running boards rather than being tucked away under them as in the 5" loco.
